Seafarers is a landmark mixed-use development positioned along the Yarra River, occupying one of Melbourne’s final riverfront opportunities within the Northbank Precinct. The project forms a key connection between the CBD and the evolving Docklands waterfront district.

Riverlee initiated the revitalisation of the Northbank Precinct in 2015 after acquiring the site directly from the State Government, presenting a vision centred on community engagement and the sensitive restoration of its historic industrial character.

Honouring the location’s rich maritime heritage, Seafarers is built around the careful restoration and adaptive reuse of the heritage-listed Goods Shed No. 5, along with its iconic travelling crane. These elements remain the only surviving structures from Melbourne’s pre-containerisation era, when the Yarra River served as the city’s primary working port.

Architecturally designed by Nonda Katsalidis of Fender Katsalidis, Seafarers introduces Melbourne’s first internationally branded hotel residences, positioned above Australia’s inaugural 1 Hotel. Together they form the distinctive address known as 1 Hotel & Homes Melbourne.

The precinct includes 114 beautifully crafted residences designed by Carr Design Group, alongside 277 hotel rooms, a 940-seat conference and event centre, premium bars and restaurants, curated retail spaces, and a 3,500-square-metre public waterfront park known as Seafarers Rest. Collectively, these elements establish a new benchmark for riverfront living and hospitality in Melbourne.
